This project was a beast. There's really no other way to describe it. We bought the building the end of 2010 because of the location and potential. Though - those were really the only redeeming qualities about it. Formally an appliance repair shop/video repair who know's what, the 4000 square foot property was divided into small, really non-functional rooms. We held our office here for about a year and a half while plans for the new Blue Door location were being made. Without boring you with too many details, we gutted the entire building to the studs - and started over. The space now has a 1600 sq/ft dining area and the rest is kitchen! It is home to some of the most state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment, eco-friendly oil/grease removal equipment and is a 100% compostable restaurant. We are really proud of it. With the design, since we were starting from scratch (sort of), we really wanted to make sure that it felt like it had always been there - knowing that it wouldn't be long before it became a pillar for the Longfellow community. One of the coolest features is the table tops - we took the beams that had been in the building for 100+ years, had them refinished by Squared Furniture and they will now host many burgers and pints for years to come! You gotta check this place out.
